Back to home function inside a Unifi network?

Hello,

ok, this might be a strange question: Let’s say I have a Unifi network (router, switch, wifi) and I would like to use the back to home function, would that be possible? The reason for this is, that I don’t like Unifi to intall fancy Certificates on my phone to get in my network and eventually I want to test / switch to MikroTik. Is it possibile to buy a small MikroTik device with routerOS (e.g. CRS304-4XG-IN) and plug that in my Unifi switch and use the back to home function?

Kind regards,

belu

Yes, no problem, as long as your switch itself has internet access.

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you know if it actually needs to be a router or if a switch with routerOS works, too?

RouterOS version required: v7.12 and newer
Hardware requirements: ARM/ARM64/TILE architecture devices

As long the switch meets the hardware requirements. It should work.

Just seconding @infabo: many of the switches have MIPSBE arch. Unfortunately, back to home is not available for them. They do support wireguard fully, just not BTH.

If you want a device specifically for vpn purposes, the new hex refresh or hex s are ideal.
