i have two pppoe clients who have a constant upload maxed to google ip addresses 172.217.x.x
i have no idea what to do to stop this, i have tried firewall rules but google.com gets blocked as well
i have tried ports, but same result google gets blocked as well.
anyone with a similar experience?
Call the customer and explain why what they are doing is not reasonable.
Prepare for some discussion about what a customer can expect from an ISP and why.
Also consider dropping from the business and finding another way to earn money.
That seems a bit harsh. This could be an opportunity for the OP to learn about traffic management.
Maybe I have read too many “help! my users are actually making traffic! I want to block block block!” topics…
yes you have.
i have figured out that this constant upload has nothing to do with any client activity, but instead it’s background activity from malicious apps, and apps that run in the background without permission.
It’s very evident that the servers being used are owned by google, and so anytime i try to block the malicious intent by blocking ip addresses, google.com goes along with it.
Are you sure it isn’t Youtubers uploading their new vlog to their channel??
Maybe Android, doing backup of the daily collection of videos and photos. One day I made a long video, and when got home Android started the cloud backup. At the time I had 2Mb of upload, and took more than an hour to finish it.
I definitely share your frustration with the “Help! Someone please do all my network engineering for free! URGENT!!!” ![]()
