I freshly bought the CSS318-16G-2S+ and booted it up. I saw at first after logging into the switch the warning on the top right "A backup version of SwOS is running, update SwOS for full functionality."
I upgraded SwOS and the Switch rebooted but Nothing changed.
I manually downloaded the firmware, uploaded it on the switch and it rebooted without success by upgrading to the new firmware too.
I tried then the solution to load the Primary software by holding the reset button after I powered the Switch on but it didn't helped either.
Did I do something wrong or is something wrong on the Switch which is brand new?
It's a CSS318. It's running on Firmware 2.17p and it shows this on the top right corner of the web ui. I did the step what it wanted but it didn't upgraded the firmware.
It's not that easy to ignore it if the backup SwOS version is running and not the primary. I got this Switch brand new yesterday and at first boot it was running on the backup SwOS version. Because of that I can't save my configurations on the switch. The newest version available is the 2.18 but if I'm upgrading the switch manually or let it download the upgrade it doesn't upgrade to the new version and stays in Version 2.17p.
I tried both the CSS and it didn't upgraded. I tried it with my MacBook instead of my PC, with Chrome instead of Firefox and it failed upgrading too.
Does it look that I got a defective switch?
I upload a screenshot that you can be sure that I'm on that version which I wrote a few hours ago and the problem on the top right corner.
As noted earlier, I loaded 2.18 on my CSS318-16G-2S+ switch (although I don't recall what it came with) without issue, so it would appear that the downloadable file is good. I have another of these due to arrive tomorrow, so I'l be trying again.
The only difference I see is that you are set for another language, and I am seeing English . . . It's a longshot, but might be worth a try. (Not sure if language support is "baked in" or the downloads offered differ . . . )
Are there any other messages while it is trying to update? Flash must be at least somewhat OK, since 2.17p is running. . . . perhaps if something is preventing write?
If this is still an issue tomorrow, I'll check/play with my new one a bit before deployment.
“Hold this button during boot time until the LED light starts to flash. Release the button to reset SwOS configuration and load backup software for reinstallation and upgrade.”
Upgrade via the "Download and Upgrade" button rocked 2.18 in flawlessly in abouot 20 seconds.
Not sure that I can be of much more help here . . . The note above about holding the button may have merit, but I can definitely confirm that the SwOS 2.18 image at mikrotik.com is viable. No idea where "2.17p" came from . . .
