Bad pings outbound, normal pings inbound?

I’m sure this is queue related, but we are seeing poor fluctuating pings on outbound connections but normal pings on inbound connections. We are seeing the same problem on gaming server pings and VoIP pings not just ICMP traffic.

From a machine connected to the LAN port pinging a machine connected to the WAN port, we’ll see pings fluctuation from 3ms-200ms. However, when the WAN machine pings the LAN ip address, pings are a constant 3ms.

We are doing bandwidth shaping in the queues but even IP addresses with no bandwidth settings are seeing the same issues.

Any ideas?

Is there any wireless involved? If yes, check the SNR on both sides.
I have seen something very similar when the signal level at one side of the wifi bridge had wrong positioned antenna.

Nope, no wireless. Running 2.8.28 by the way.

Increasing the priority of the queues didn’t help either. Out of idea on this end. Anyone else know what might be causing the problem?

Do you use limit-at on your queues? I found priority dont work unless you specify that.
