Band steering Mikrotik Audience and other aps

Hi guys

I know it has been a very requested feature, has anyone heard anything from Mikrotik yet, shell we hope for ROS 7?

I use “no authenticate” and access lists to manually allow some devices to stay in 2.4 WLAN however I guess in big networks it is not a good idea, even in my environment with about 20 clients to have an optional Band steering would be an advantage…

Any thoughts?

Not really…

In my opinion bandsteering is very much overrated, especially because:

  • In the WiF spoecifications it was never mentioned/described and therefor manufactures all have their own implementation (and they don’t work as good as you might think)
  • All modern devices (Android/iOS/Windows/etc.) will prefer 5GHz radio over 2,4GHz radio
  • In regards to the modern devices: play with transmission power
  • I red about a beacon tweak that could better be implemented
