I have been using 1100AHx2’s and the occasional CCR-36 in the field for a while as packet sniffer/bandwidth test appliances. I see that although it only has 1gb RAM, the nominal CPU frequency of the 3011UAS is .4ghz faster than the 1100. Just for fun, I have placed a couple of 3011’s directly connected to each other on the test bench, and tested between them. It would appear that even without any bridges, mangle rules, queues..etc, these cannot reliably pass more than 400mbps of TCP traffic over a single 1gbps link. Media is unimportant - I have tried both fiber and copper. By “reliably” I mean I can occasionally get adjustments to 700mbps, but the average always hovers around 400. If I limit speed to 400, it is a pretty flat-line speedtest. Of course, UDP speed tests just run at wire speed.
Has anyone else had any experience pushing the limits of TCP bandwidth testing using the higher end mikrotiks? Is there a plan to allow multi-core usage for bandwidth testing tool in the future?
