Bandwidth Test Maximum?

Anyone have an idea what I should expect as the maximum on bandwidth test between devices over gigE? I have a RB3011, CRS125, and some NetMetals. Seems to max out at around 600Mbps and then starts dropping packets. Trying to figure out if thats normal or if I should be closer to 1000Mbps.

Depends on the performance of traffic generators, how big are the packets and how the tested devices are configured. You can get much more as well as much less…

Interesting update.

When I use the CRS or NetMetals as the source and destination I max out at 980 Mbps. Even when it goes through the RB3011 (e.g. you can see it coming in and out the ports at 980 Mbps). When I use the RB3011 the CPU maxes out at 50% and I only get 550 Mbps. It appears to be a limitation of the RB3011 CPU… which is odd…

Oh. You should know that btest runs on single core only. Note that the way you use the btest doesn’t reliably test the forwarding performance of the devices. If you want to test anything use two computers as traffic generators on both sides of tested path.
