I recently purchased a basebox2 and I find it quite enjoyable but have a few questions and comments:
First let me explain my purpose. I want to have two separate SSID broadcasting so I can give them each a vlan id and packet schedule at the router based upon if they are connected to the private or public SSID. I put the basebox2 in AP mode initially and had a few issues. I read on mikrotik’s website that one can not vlan id an interface that is bridged with another. So I went and tried to setup the basebox2 in router mode to accomplish the work around.
While trying to do this, I set the WAN interface ip as static to 172.17.0.250/16 default route 172.17.0.1 (my edgie that it is connected to via switch is running FreeBSD and the interface is bge0). and the lan interface to 172.18.0.1/16 with dhcp server responding in that range. After this I would add a route on the edgie/FreeBSD machine for 172.18.0.0/16 as 172.17.0.250 and be in business.
Things did not work out this way, I added the route and I can’t ping 172.18.0.1 or 172.17.0.250 from the edgie.
Yet when I plug the basebox2 into my desktop, it leases an ip to me and i can ping either of them just fine.
What is the problem? Why can’t I ping either the LAN or WAN interface of the basebox2 from the edgie? Is this some sort of firewall protection since it’s a WAN interface? Is there any way I can change this action?
Please help!
Thanks,
