Basic network discovery help?

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I actually thought I posted this question but I am not seeing it so I obviously did something wrong already lol. I am looking to get a map of my network without all the windows computers (routers, printers, switches etc). I thought I did it correctly by unchecking the windows computers in the device type tab but it still gave me a map of all devices. Also, is there a simple way to clear the map and start over? Thanks in advance for the help!

Tony

Tony,
firstly - welcome. I’d advise against using autodiscovery, in my experience it doesn’t give you anything of great value, just a logical interconnection of devices by subnets. I’ve always had my monitoring set up along physical interconnection lines. Makes more sense to me that way. The only way I have managed to get the setup I want is to manually add each device, set up the probes and notifications that I want for the device and then manually add the conecctions that make the network hang together. There is a bit of discussion about basic setup and discover vs manual in this thread http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/need-general-practices-for-n00bs/59303/3 I’d set aside some (considerable) time to play with The Dude before you start out setting up your system. Use the Probes thread and the Dude Wiki manual http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:The_Dude as references when you are experimenting. This forum is also a good resource, but don’t expect immediate answers.
