I am technically good but not network savy. purchased a 450G to see what I can learn. so far I have updated the firmware with no probs and have inserted it between my Dlink router and my laptop to play with it. setup eth1 for DHCP client & eth2 DHCP server…all defaults. worked pretty good so far. Have a small issue with Ubiquiti Air Control; does not update properly…all show disconnectd. if I remove the 450 I get green lights. I can ping all and IE works fine…no issues at all…other than the Ubiquiti thing.
I want to replace my dlink with the 450. I currently have a static ISP link, no user name or password so all I need to do is creat a static IP address on eth1 and then work back from there. BUT, I’ve found no place that makes sense to me where I can change eht1 from a DHCP client to a IP static…I know some are smacking thier heads but I’ve read and looked and despite the obvious…it’s not obvious to me. Sooooooooooooo, where do I get smart?
I also have been toying with Ubiquit radio’s. BG stuff…have nano’s, powerstations, pico’s, and bullets. also have “The Dude” running. my question is this; how do I program the 450 to manage the ubiquiti stuff? i’ve tried to eneter the mac in the wireless with required info and it doesnt see them…but they show up in the neighbor np.
as far as a BASIC comment from myself; I know I am stepping into more than I have knowledge about but I am a pretty quick learn so if I can read it, watch it, or fix it after I break it I can get it. This forum is great for intermediate and above and the Basic info provided here has some serrious missing info for guys like myself. Not slamming anyone, just saying it like it is. Basic I’d like to see in the “How to section” are; How to config eth1 static ISP; How to config Bridge and when to Bridge. I’d like to even learn these things from a beginers perspective and then write it up for others to view…and I am sure I’ll come up with more.
If anyone has some good links to help me cross over to the dark side I’d appreciate it. I’ve been on M’s website/forum and also into the “Brain” to watch a few videos…but I still have some questions…
I did not expect an approval but now that I’ve been blessed…
I cannot get the static IP to work on eth1. if I go with the default settings and connect eth1 to my ISP I get a IP client dynamic IP address from the ISP and all works fine. The dynamic is NOT my assigned static…it is pure client.
so, when I delete the client from eth1 and enter my static info in eth1 I get no internet connections…but if I simply add a client to eth1 I get joy.
ya know, setting up a static is easy, right! not with the 450g…I am lost in how to get a static to work properly.
I did run the client onto my network with the ns2’s and all worked fine…outside the fact that my ip address was dynamic and not static. I need static due to the way I do business out here in Idaho,ya know!
thanks,
Kerry
oh, I’d paste in the setup info but the bottom lne is I use default setup as rest from the terminal…which works. router out of the box…but if I enter a static IP I get zilch
I am new at this too but I will give it a shot. I try IP> Addresses Fill in the address, network, broadcast you want to use and select the interface you what to assign it to.
I’ve entered all that onto ether1, setup DNS & NAT…can’t access internet from LAN (LAN is dhcp ether2345 bridged)
fun part is, if I add a dhcp client to ether1 I get connected…
LAN works perfect…both ways
I even forwarded a port to my video server when I had the ether1 setup as a dhcp client…how good is that?
I’ve got a call into my ISP…since I can see other RouterBoards I suspect they can also provide me with help. This forum is neat but the help, or should I say lack of help, will force me to go where I am loved
got it up and running. odd thing was when I tried to use the default startup settings it pulled the ISP IP and all worked under 192.168.88.1/24…so I slowly changed that config over to my ISP settings…all went good except there were times the changes did not stick. they show changed but actual did not reflect. ie. I removed the 192.168.88.1/24 IP address, dhcp server, pool…added 192.168.1.1/24, dhcp, pool…resestablished the IP address on my laptop…and it still showed a 192.168.88.1 address? So I just removed all, rebooted, and added…worked ok then.
I think the overall issue was the proper Route…thanks again.
Great you made it work. Last month I went through about the same stages you described.
I’m looking into playing with Ubiquiti right now (ordering nano and bullet M2). If you find anything interesting about ubnt - post it if you don’t mind.
