Begginer Question, Wifi network for rural area

I am new to this forum, we are planning to establish wifi hotspot for a rural area of about 1km x 0.5 km (0.5 km sq).

Can you please advice me if the following hardware will be able to cover the area?

RouterBoard rb433AH
R52N x 2
Grid antenna

this area is mostly flat land and houses are mostly single story houses

Hello,

you can use sector antenas better.

You will work with 5GHz or 2.4?

The costumers will have CPE in their houses or directly to the laptops? If they’ll only use the laptops directly, youll need to put 2 APs, because the TX power of a laptop is very low.

Typically most “hotspots” are a single omni and some sort of Internet feed (wireless backhaul, DSL, etc.). The thing you want to watch is blasting the signal out too far if you are looking for laptop users. You don’t want to get into a situation where the laptops can hear the base station good, but they are not strong enough to get back to it. Kind of like someone on one end of a field with a megaphone and the other person at the other end without one.

yes, that’s why you need either some CPE router devices to get better connections, or install other access points to cover a larger area. typically laptops and mobile devices can’t connect further than 100-200m from the AP no matter how strong the AP signal is.
