Best Archtecture for Garden Style Apartment Complex

Hi guys. I’m working on a proposal to provide internet and voip at a garden style apartment complex. We plan to offer internet and voip. I’m looking for feedback based on experience what the best balanced architecture is. I’ve consided; PtMP, PTP, Wireless Mesh. I need a solution that’s cost effective, has some redundancy and reliable enough to support voip. On the attached picture buildings 1, 13 and 5 will have a internet access (50mbs each). I’m looking to keep the buildings served per hub to about 6 buildings.
Let me know if you require more detail and I’ll provide whatever I can. Thanks!

BTW. I’m expecting an average of 4 subscribers per building.

Since you’ve put voice into the equation, that immediately eliminates mesh, too much jitter.

If you can, go for ptp. Failing that, go for PTMP with a 90deg sector on each corner AP and two 90deg sectors on the central AP.

For the client, install omnitiks on the roof of each block if your distances aren’t too big.. This would make installation quicker since there’s no alignment to do, and give you redundancy since each omnitik will have 2 (or possibly 3 APs) available to choose from.

How do you plan to distribute into the apartments? I would recommend putting in a RB1100 or a RB 493 and distribute with Ethernet into each Unit

That’s where I was leaning. I was seriously considering the omnitiks however they don’t have a GE interface. Looks like only 5 FE ports. I was going to go with the SXT for each building and I’m distributing to the end users via VDS2+ over the existing copper pair. I’ve done this a few times and it keeps the cost down and with the short loop lengths from CPE to DSLAM is usually under 500ft I’m getting speeds up to 35/82mbs. Thanks for the feedback. I will have more questions I’m sure.

I was originally going to do a p2p in a ring archtecutre but the cost of having two radios on each building started to add up. However if I could do a p2p with low gain omni’s that would give me a path around the ring in the opposite direction while still maintaining a p2p link. The average distance between buildings is about 70ft. However there are plenty that are spaced as little as 26ft apart. I may just put conduit in between those. Not much cost difference and less electronics. Any recomendation on omni’s? I was looking for something with about 7-10db gain. Thoughts?

A ring may not be ideal due to the latency it will introduce, especially since you’ll be distributing with VDSL which will introduce some latency of its own.

SXT’S or OmniTik, it’s your choice really. I don’t think the gigabit port will make a difference (your air side will be limited to 100-120mbps per AP anyway), and with SXTs you will lose the redundancy factor. Having said that, SXTs will give you a stronger signal and will be less prone to interference… It’s a trade off.

What is the best mode for my radios (Bridge or Router)? I was initally going to put them in bridge mode and have the routing process done by the RB1100 that the SXT is connected to.
