I want to use a dedicated Box for Dude to monitor our WISP Network. We are running the old Dude on a dedicated Windows10 now. Tried with a CCR 1036 but it did not perform well. I guess the USB stick slowed down Dude The internal Drive of CCR is to small.
Considering CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+PC with a SD-Card. Anyone using this? Is SD-Card fast enough? Which one to use? Or will be there a Routerboard with more internal Disk to run Dude?
CCR microSD slot performance is not to great, at least per our tests it is not good enough for The Dude server storage. I would try again with some high speed usb3.0 flash or drive. Also in best case with latest v6.38rc build on the device, to have all of the latest db performance tweaks.
Ok. So I need a USB HUB to additionaly attach an UMTS Stick for SMS-alerting.
I tried with same USB 2.0 Stick now. The “db performance tweaks” seem to make it work now. I see low disk usage in the profile tab.
I’m using dude on CCR1016-12G with Sandisk Extreme 16GB pendrive (write speed 50MB/s)
Looks like good.
I’m planning a secondary (backup) dude server on a CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+
My question is, what is the best solution:
-Sandisk extreme pro micro sd card (write speed approx 80MB/s)
-Samsung evo micro sd (write speed approx 25MB/s)
-USB 3.0 Pendrive 32GB Kingston Hyperx F (write speed approx 25MB/s)
My opinion is all solution should be good, because all of the ccr has only usb 2.0 (otg) slot, so the available write speed is max 25-30MB/s
Is it correct or not?
The dude monitor around 400 devices. Now I’m using 6.37.1.
I’m already read it, but I think most of users make test with cheap (and slow!) cards or flash drives.
But MikroTik doesn’t make performance test for sd slot, only for routing performance
So I think the only way to become an answer for my questions, that I need perform the tests myself.
Next week can I do it, then I will post the results.
Another possible solution is old rb800 with cf card.
Question is what performance has the rb800 cf slot?
I just had 4 of these 64 GB Lexar P20 devices arrive today. Nice looking, complimenting the black Rb3011 perfectly. Read speeds of 400 Mbps and write 270 Mbps. I think that should do it!
I’m also interested in a HW solution for running The Dude software. I’ve no existing HW available, what is the best way, on which HW, to install and run The Dude application for monitoring the Mikrotik devices?
The USB drives etc being discussed in which HW are you using them? Because a USB by itself doesn’t do much of course. I probably misunderstood. Can you clarify?
Ok, thanks. So there is no Mikrotik device by itself that can run The Dude server software by itself. I always need PC (Windows) HW in my network to run the server Dude, is that my correct understanding?
Yes. You can use it on a normal desktop to be always connected or install it on a laptop and use to connect when u want (not recommended). Ofcourse always connected is perfect sense
The server Dude should always be up and running in the network so that automatically failures can be detected and reported on, correct? Otherwise the added value of The Dude has dropped in my view. I could be wrong of course.
