I finally ran into so much interference on 2.4Ghz that I need to transition to 5.8Ghz.
My question is, with all the new hardware, what’s my best option.
I plan on putting up 3 120 deg H-pol sectors with RB411AH’s. Not sure which radio I want to use at the AP or Clients.
Each AP will service about 10-15 clients.
Any suggestions?
Thinking maybe RB411’s with R52nM’s or Groove’s.
Just haven’t been keeping up with the new hardware & it’s actual performance.
Thanks all.
I’ve got a few Groove, definitely decent units, however, being in a plastic case they will interfere with each other if too close on a tower. They make great CPE’s.
Groove looks good for CPE.
What radio card would you recommend on the AP?
My 5GHz AP’s are R52H and XR5. I only have one R52Hn and that particular access point is very buggy, not the cards, the 433 board.
The R52Hn seems to be a decent card, but I’d like to hear from some other folks as well.
The RB711 has worked very well for me, but mine is just ptp, not ptmp.
Why 3 RB411 and not use 1 RB433AH? I use them for all my AP’s and the RB411 for the cpe. The Rb411AH is a good card but you need 3 for your setup and 3 power supplies.
3 AP’s on RB433AH didn’t work well for me. Noisy. May have been the pigtails I was using.
So much simpler to with 1 RB per AP Sector. Each RB in it’s own enclosure.
One power supply powering all RB’s and charging battery.
Works for me. ![]()
I was advised to use RB411 instead of RB433 with 3 cards and I wish I had done that.
It will cause self interference. Aug is on the right track.
Normally, a new tower has 3 x sector and one backhaul (p2p) to the main com center.
The best config cost/noise ratio for me is 2 x (RB433 with 2 good cards).
This antenna could be a good choice for singles RB411 installation:

I have never had good luck running multiple cards on one board. In my network we run a mix of 411 and 433 for APs most running XR5 or XR2 cards. The big problem with multiple cards on one board besides the noise is that if the board fails it kills more than 1 sector. As for the client side i have been having good luck with ubnt nsm, for the price you cant go wrong.
