Best Hardware for MPLS Networking

Hello Members!!!

I am looking for the Hardware CCR or CRS which is Quite suitable to run MPLS Backbone in 6 Locations.

Traffic Passed over MPLS will be Around 6G-8G… Can anyone Please recommend which Hardware I can use in this case.???

  1. Can i use Mikrotik CRS for MPLS or should i look for CCR Series?

  2. If i can Use CRS then which Model or CCR which Model is best?

  3. If I use RB Series Like RB3011 or RB2004 how much Load can it handle over MPLS Switching.?

Bump

Seems, reading your signature, that we should ask you for such help.

That 6 -8 G is “per hour”? “per day”? Get the fastest device you can afford to have “spare power”.

Please get in touch with @nithinkumar2000 from the MikroTik forum, he seems to have all the necessary certifications.

Do certifications include charts of performance expected for all hardware references in typical scenarios/configurations?

Who would you ask if not a consultant?

I think you can be a consultant without being an expert on any possible scenario at any scale

In my case, I have deployed Wisp/Fisp Networks up to 20Gbps of total bandwidth

If you ask me about scaling on switching, core-router, cgnat-router, QoS-Router, PPPoE-router, at that scale on MikroTik equipment I can solve it for sure

But MPLS is a different animal

I am happy that most people (Specially Forum Guru and Forum Veteran) here are reading my signature and suggesting me for my own Query

FYI I am trying to workout a cheaper solution for one of my client and I created this post so if anyone who has already used some Hardwares like CRS or RB series for MPLS and What is the Performace they are getting from it.
Also there is no docs and forum topic available which describes the Capacity of Hardware Running MPLS…

But I didnt Know that this forum only helps Begineers… Well anyhow thanks for the recommendation @BartoszP @Znevna

Start with https://mikrotik.com/product/rb5009ug_s_in#fndtn-specifications with SRP @ 220$ which is not too high.
Make tests and then decide if you need to upgrade the router or not. 2004, 2216, 1036, 1072 … lots of possibilities.
IMHO combined 8Gb needs SFP+

RB3011 isn’t nearly enough.

For prod and those speeds, we tend to use the CCR1036 on ROSv6 long term for client ISPs.

CCR2216/2116 and CCR2004 are all capable of those speeds but they are still finding and fixing MPLS bugs in ROSv7 (one I submitted was just fixed in July) so make sure you’ve tested the protocols you want to run on ROSv7 hardware in a lab before you go prod.

Are you wanting just P functionality or do you need PE as well?

Thanks for the reply everyone.

Hope ROSv7 will get stable soon for MPLS Operations

My Doubt is can CRS315-1G-5S-4S+ device handle MPLS???

Yes, it can as it uses ROS.

The real question is: Is it powerfull enough to handle my traffic?
The answer is: You should have invest and check it by yourself..

Yesterday Tried MPLS VPLS setup Between two CRS 106 Model and results were as follow:

  1. Traffic Exchange in VPLS - 30Mbps - 40Mbps - CPU Usage btw 30% - 50%
  2. Traffic Exchange in VPLS - 50Mbps - 65Mbps - CPU Usage btw 50% - 100%

Happy to see a Bacis Hardware is supports 50M - 65M!!!

Also Tried MPLS VPLS setup Between two RB450G Model and results were as follow:

  1. Traffic Exchange in VPLS - 30Mbps - 50Mbps - CPU Usage btw 25% - 40%
  2. Traffic Exchange in VPLS - 60Mbps - 130Mbps - CPU Usage btw 50% - 98%

If Basic Mikrotik ROuter can support VPLS with Around 100M then i believe Board with Dual Core and Above can show Better Performance…
