best POE device for cameras

RB260GSP or hex PoE lite? I have Mikrotik WAPs and main router already. I need to add connectivity for 4 POE cameras. It seems like the hex POE lite would be more common to what I’m used to because of the RouterOS. But I am far from an expert. This is just around my home. I know how to make these things work basically but that’s about it. I’d imagine both of those devices would work, but it seems with ROS at least it’s something I know (kind of). Which should I use?

Then I need to get the POE Power into the device. 4 cameras take 0.5 amps each. Seems like there are lots of POE power supplies available. What should I use for this?

What camera models? Are they active (802.3af/at) or passive PoE?

0.5 amps? :open_mouth:
Maybe they use 0.5A@12V or 0.5A@24V.
Most PoE cameras are nowadays 802.3af, which usually work @48V, and to be af compliant they must use less than 15.4W, so, less than 0.32A.

Post the exact make/model of these camera so that we can check their specs, PoE and related specifications, and the way they are implemented and often mis-documented by the various manufacturers is pure madness.

Both the Hex Poe lite and RB260gsp use passive PoE, @24V and there is also the possible issue with mode A vs. mode B wiring.

Please note that hex poe lite can’t provide poe 802.3at/af in 48-56volt. I suggest you to use RB960PGS or CRS112-8P, which support high voltage at 48V
