Best settings to get maximum speed for 5 GHz on RB4011

I have just installed RB4011 and it seems the wireless connection is not at it’s best speed. My ISP allows to use the net with the speed of 600/50 Mbps. On a cable I am reaching that 550 - 600 Mbps. Sadly, on 5 GHz I cannot reach more than 200 - 250 Mbps. Anybody could help with using proper settings for the radio? I am using CAPsMAN as I will want to add another AP soon.

Well , I did notice this one before you asked to look at it. There is a lot of information missing though, so I didn’t start on it.

The RB4011 can handle this, that’s OK

CAPsMAN, on the RB4011 or other device?
Then the 5 GHz. What is the setting? Channel width and frequency! What is the signal for the client? (Can be seen at menu “wireless”, tab “registration”: TX/RX signal, TX rate and RX rate, like “-45/-35” and “400Mbps-40MHz/2S/SGI”
And then most importantly: what does the “Freq.usage” and “Snooper” on that interface tell you about the other devices around the RB4011?
How do you define 200-250 Mbps? Is this throughput (net traffic) or is this the transmission rate (interface rate). For ethernet this is almost the same, not so for wifi. (wifi is half duplex, and has short or long inter transmit gaps followed by a “channel clear check” before each transmission)

Perhaps a dumb question: can your laptop (or whatever it is you’re testing with) actually do more than 5Ghz AC 1x1 (433Mbps)? Not everything does, and 250Mbps effective throughput is about par for the course at 433Mbps connection rate.

CAPsMAN on RB4011
Channel width and frrequency is set to “auto” - haven’t touched it.
I define 200-250 Mbps as a result on speedtest.net - when using cable it shows 550 - 600 Mbps download and 70-80 Mbps upload (this one is the same on wifi).

Windows shows “connection speed 650 Mbps” so I guess it can support.

Can you please post the output of /caps-man export hide-sensitive

A lot of related reading: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html

650Mbps interface rate gives 357Mbps data rate, in this elaborated overview. (55% efficiency)
This is also without any interference or retransmitting in the shared medium. Even another idle AP generates quite some air-time consumption because the beacons are transmitted at the lowest speed.

I can’t reach even that. I will look at it.

Here it is:

Still can be normal. You connect at 650 Mbps interface rate as your device indicated. This is probably “MCS7/ 80 MHz//2 spatial streams (2x2)/ SGI”
Details of bandwidth, spatial streams and guard interval, are in the wireless registration on the RB4011, but you did not give that info.
Packet retransmits are in the statistics of the wireless registration (Frames versus HW Frames)
As I see “channel.skip-dfs-channels=yes country=poland”, you are limited to the channels 36-40-44-48 as the only choice (5170-5250), to my understanding
These are the most used 5 GHz channels. Is there ANY other use of the spectrum there? ANY other activity in any of these 4 channels will make the RB4011 wait!
Other possibility is TCP congestion avoidance being triggered by packet loss.
Just digging deeper … Older Windows used to have some problems on wifi, by restricting the size of the receive window, “on public wifi interface only”. https://www.duckware.com/blog/how-windows-is-killing-internet-download-speeds/index.html . It is NOT a problem in my current Windows 10 !

I don’t think anyone has ever been able to achieve more than 300Mbps single stream TCP throughput on 5GHz mikrotik ARM with capsman.
