Best setup for Squid Proxy

Hi Guys

I am designing a new network layout and i’m not sure how to incorporate the squid proxy…I have attached a pic of two possible ideas so please tell me which setup is the best

Do I need 2 ethernet interfaces for the squid in both options? or just 1?

Thanks

Not sure I see a difference to be honest. All traffic first goes through your queues then through squid then to the internet.

Well does the Squid box in option 2 have one or two ethernet interfaces?

I think the best option, is the option Number 2
Squid will have only one interface

Option 1 is definitely better. Use two squid boxes with either of the two options configured for resilience:

  1. Multicast Addresses on the link between mikrotik and squid. Do a Policy Routing on the mikrotik for http traffic, set the next hop as the multicast address of the squid pair.

  2. Do a VRRP for the squid pair and do Policy Routing on Mikrotik for http traffic
