"Best" up-to-date 3G card ?

Hi guys,

Basic stuff : I wanna have a 3G router for Europe on RB411U.
Few questions :

  • Which is the “best”, most stable 3G card ? (I’d like to have HSDPA/HSUPA speed)
  • Is it possible to have HSDPA/HSUPA and HSPA+ on the same card ?

(USB or miniPCI-e I don’t mind, but I would like to have an external antenna)

Do you guys have any experience ? Any suggestions ?
thanks a lot

I have tested a Novatel Wireless XU870 express card with a usb → expresscard cable connected to rb411u and works great and have external antenna connector.

thx for your feedback.
didn’t know it was possible to have an expresscard converter, interesting

I’m looking at the Option GTM382 W, although I don’t need the voice and GPS part …
Trying to find the same kind at Sierra, but it seems there is a lot of sub-version that are not on their website.

I could use your experience

I would probably use a RB411UAHR in a stationbox 12dbi for wifi
but is there any space in that for a HSDPA antenna ?

Wifi minipciexpress cards are, actually, USB cards.

I like the Sierra Wireless MC8790 miniPCI-cards because they have u.Fl.-connectors for external umts-antenna. The MC8775 is similar but has only one (usable) serial modem channel, so you can’t read signal quality or other settings while being connected via ppp over 3G/GPRS.
If you don’t need an external antenna so give the Huawei K3520/Vodafone E169-USB-Stick a try.

great info, thanks

Do you know what the diff between MC8790, 8791, 8792 ?
I think i’ll go for this one, it looks great

do you have any antenna to suggest ?

Hi , guys… I have a Z3520 modem usb provided by Vodafone Spain. Anybody knows what is the correct configuration to install on RB411U? Thanks.

Haven’t seen any 8791s, but the only difference between 8790 and 8792 seems to be the UMTS frequency bands it supports.

I’m in Europe and I’m using the 8790V. It’s a good card, connects on 3G almost constantly and claims to have a built in GPS, but I haven’t figured out how to use that in MT yet.
