best way for multi network card pc

i want at least 12 ether cards with support of full features like vlan etc for my mikrotik server.
i heard about some ways like pci hub which give us multi pci from each pci but somebody says that those pci hubs make mikrotik crash.
i searched for some multi pci motherboards but they are very expensive or unreachable for me.
now what is the best way ?

thanks for any good ideas

The big question you have to ask is what about performance. A standard PC with 4 PCI slots will give you 12 GigEs However, the actual throughput on those cards would come close to a bit over a single GIG! Why, shared buss! The total throughput of your buss speed is a bit over that 1 gig mark. This will kill your performance on any such system.

Some suggestions would be a 600 board with the add on 564 board, but that gets your 9 ethernets, and at 10/100.. If that is fast enough and enough ports no prob.

WE have two solutions, one would be a 732 (7 GigEs) plus a HP Procurve Swtich, VLANed out to be 24 additional ports on the MT via VLANs. You can then use vlans on the switch to do whatever else.

The better solution, though would be a 2200 series, these start with 10 gigEs with 4 Copper GigEs sharing 1 PCI x4 buss, and then gets upgraded pp to 22 GigEs. Plus you will get up to Dual Quad Xeon Processors if you wish! Dual Hot-Swap Power Supplies also come standard. YOu can see more on http://www.mikrotikrouter.com if you are interested.

I’m sure your MT Distributor may have other solutions available as well.

I would recommend a Supermicro motherboard with a few Intel Quad GigE cards and/or a switch with VLAN’ed ports.
