Best way of setting up a Hotel WiFI System

Hi All.

I would like to pick your brains if ok?

I am new to MikroTik, usually using RobinMesh to achieve my goals, but need something that can support faster speeds across hops.

I am planning to install 4 Nodes ( a node being a Mikrotik box with 1 or cards in it )

The Main Node will be connected to the internet, and will have a 2.4ghz card in for client connection. (should i have a 2nd card for the backhaul traffic?, or can the 1 deal with inbound connection ok) - maximum or afound 20 users on the whole network at once, but over a largish hotel.

All other nodes will have dual radios in, one for client connection, the other in station to bridge to the first access point to keep the speed good. 2nd radio will also be 2.4ghz for backhaul, as I heard 5ghz is not too good when used inside (lots of walls and doors)

Two questions:

  1. Rather than a star method using station on the 2nd radio, should I use WDS or Mesh to make sure there’s more than 1 way back to gateway?
  2. Do i just run the hotspot service on the main gateway, or on all units? Its all authenticating against a radius server, and am keen to keep re-auths to a minimum if people move around the site.

any advice much appreciated.

Use mesh and put one hotspot in the main ap.
