Hello mikrotik community,
I’m attempting to configure a bgp failover in my mikrotik core router.
We have the following resources assignates to our company.
168.197.172.0/22 (splited in 4x24subnets)
AS264773
The BGP sessions with our ISP are successfully established, but I want to make the routes prefer my ISP1 path instead the ISP2.
I tried to set the ‘set-bgp-prepend=3’ atteibute into the ISP2 filter but is ignored.
If you want to influence how other se you anounced routes: add prepends for example.
If you want to influence how your own organisation elect between other means identical routes: use weight.
Routing on the internet IS asymetric. You may only ASK of others how you want them to reach you but they are allowed to ignore you. You can only control how traffic is leaving your own as.
Its and hars over simplification off course but once you set that mindset and look apon the bgp beast it will be much more clear to you what you can and can’t expect.
