I am currently having big problems with backups.
I was forced to reset the configuration from the button. When I wanted to load a backup that I had made 5 minutes before modifying my configuration, it is impossible to restore the configuration.
The modem reboots, but no configuration is loaded.
I tried from my SD, from the mikrotik memory, from a file on my pc.
Nothing ! When the router reboots and I realize that nothing has changed, I try to start a restore again but I get an error 6 !! I did not have this at the start when purchasing.
I do not make an encrypted backup and when I restore I do not put a password because I did not enter one. I tried to put the password of the user who created the backup, nothing! Last week I started from scratch and I still have to start over, I think this router will end up in the trash.
I have the latest version of ROS Stable and firmware. This also happened with the previous version
I am totally desperate and I don’t even want to redo the configuration with this system, which cannot restore a version 5 minutes before the crash.
If anyone can help me figure out why this system is so stupid ? !
make sure you enter the user that created the backup correctly, below from wiki
Warning: If password is not provided in RouterOS versions older than v6.43, then the backup file will be encrypted with the current user’s password, except if the dont-encrypted property is used or the current user’s password is empty.
I created the backup, I checked the box so that the file is not encrypted. I did not put a password. Even if I try to put my password for restore, it doesn’t work
there is a problem with my device. When it was new I couldn’t do lightning fast restorations, then one day this problem appeared. I completely left the factory by updating packages and firmware, until today where everything was going like a charm and I made the backup BEFORE doing my configuration (which did not go well) and impossible to restore even with previous backups.
I come back to the backup problem. This morning +2 GMT
I just installed from Netinstall, the same version of ROS that I had just before my problem where it was impossible to restore my file which had been saved 2 minutes before (error 6)
Once Netinstall finished, I launched the backup file that I had tried and which ended with an error 6, the restoration was carried out like a charm !

I would really like to know from Mikrotik or a power user, what is happening with this material ! ?
Is it the on-board disc? is ROS not working? What is going on ??
Last time I had the same problem but had to downgrade ROS to be able to get my save file to work.
I know very well that it is not possible to restore to another device, it must be the same unit! I know about encrypted passwords and I backup without password and without encryption (home use).
I developed my skills on Mikrotik coming from the Unifi world. What I can’t stand is having to dismantle my computer rack and go upstairs, plug the router directly into a computer, that makes NO sense ! to want to do a simple rollback with a backup file on the same version of ROS. And I want to say one thing,
I was not helped last night when I wanted to open an account on the Jira from Mikrotik, the site was not working for registration, I had to go through a Saudi Arabia VPN, and when I received the mail with the Token to validate my account, the Jira server DOES NOT EXIST.
Amazing, I have never seen such things in my life and I support the professionals who are in the problems,
it is more important than domestic use …
Now I have come to a point where I am afraid to make changes without possible rollback, I only have problems with restores. Who can tell me what’s going on?
I have not found any cases like mine, just people who forget their passwords. But I am not.
I just crached the router again
and sent my backup and it worked for the second time.
I think something was wrong with the internal SD of the router because going through Netinstall it formats and partitions.
Chances are the failure came from there. 25 times tried with the backup file without results, and 2 times after Netinstall with results.
It’s impressive.
