biomass absorption rule of thumb?

I’ve come across this quote a few times and was looking for input into its validity:

‘General rule of thumb: One decibel of absorption per 100 meters of trees per 100 MHz of frequency.’ I believe pertains to 2.4 and 3.65 spectrum.

I figure that is somewhere in the ballpark but what i’m really wondering is what is the rule of them if I am using 5mhz or 10mhz channels in 900mhz spectrum to get through biomass?

I am not sure about your exact configuration, however if you want to know the attenuation of the signal you need to know the propagation model that you need to apply. The aplication of rules of thumb is ok but is very inaccurate in my opinion in special in complex environments and more at low frequencies.
You need to apply someone of serval models for forrested terrain in your carrier freq. 900MHz.
