bonding issues

Hi

I’m pulling my hair out with issues getting bonding set up.
I’ve spent the last 2 days on this, and am about ready to call it quits—it’s just pissing me off to no end—and has us behind schedule for upgrading our POP.

We are setting up two SR5’s in bridge → wds station mode links on two P4 systems, and then bonding the wds interfaces with “rr bonding” mode. If I don’t have the primary system plugged into the upstream network, everything seems to run fine—load balancing and redundancy both work. Got some packet loss here and there, but that may be related to being indoor with the systems too close together during testing. As soon as I plug it in upstream though, the thing goes nuts. We get lots of packet loss, weird “packet gain” when pinging out, & everything else on the entire subnet goes crazy or down. If I disable one of the cards/links in the bonding, everything weird stops. Start it up again, and it goes to crap again. Which link does not matter, they both result in the same issues.
I’m pretty sure it is not bad hardware anywhere, as I said everything ran perfectly fine when tetsing prior to the uplink being plugged in.

I have tried every possible config I can think of, but there are just so many possible combinations, and documentation/wiki/examples on this have minimal setup details. Information on whether to put the bonding interface into the bridge interface with the wlan cards and network card would be helpful, as well as any proxy-arp/arp-enabled requirement, etc.

If I take bonding out of the bridge, there is no access from the slave unit to the outside world. Same deal if bonding is in the bridge and wlan cards are not. All being in the bridge causes the weird packet gain and odd issues. Same kind of results with combinations of in or out and arp stuff on just one unit at a time.

Anybody have issues like this, or any clue as to what the problem is?

Does anybody have an actual working config with WDS and bonding from live systems that run without issues?

Anyone that can post a step by step setup for this, as to what config should be in place beyond what the manual give details on, I’m sure many would find this useful…

Thanx!

2.9.27 fyi…

antenna polarisation maybe? (just guessing)

Tried that…1 pair is on 5825 and the other 5300 for testing with adequete spacing as well.
It’s not minor packet loss that concerns me, that is most likely due to the indoor proximity. What concerns me is the wired nework issues bonding causes once turned on.

any ideas?
no one is having same issue?

MT Support just emailed stating all 4 interfaces must be in bridge mode.
Going to try that shortly today, see if it fixes the issues…

Just don’t spend more time on this - bonding just doesn’t work. I spent 3 days trying figure out how to make it work, but with no success. 2.9.26

I am on day #4 now.
Changing bridge > bridge mode did nothing, except make it so we could not use Nstreme:

<< WDS for Nstreme protocol requires using station-wds mode on one of the peers. Configurations with WDS between AP modes (bridge and ap-bridge) will not work. >>

Problem was not fixed using all 4 interfaces mode=bridge.

If anything, it made it worse, as throughtput dropped horrendously, and there was constant unexplained 200k traffic running for no reason.

No response back from Mikrotik Support yet.
They really need to release proper documentation for features, before moving onto the next ones.
