Bonjour/multicast over VPN

Hi All,

i’m a new user to Mikrotik but i like it a lot :slight_smile:
i have a 2011UiAS-2HnD with firmware 3.1 running on Routerboard 6.7.

i have successfully configured the router to connect with PPPoE over vlan 6 to my fiber provider (KPN) and also have a VPN server running.
i’m able to connect my toys to the network via L2TP but i’m not able to use the bonjour services on my network.

i have added the IGMP package and added a upstream interface to my pppoe connection and also have added a interface to my lanbridge.
it is possible to make bonjour available on VPN connected clients?

Is there anyone who managed multicast/Bonjour over VPN or multiple networks?

I asked this back in 2010 with no success.

Today I see a thread that confirms that it cannot be done.

Reason: Bonjour will not allow TTL > 1, and uses a link-local address that will not transport outside L2.

So this feature will never work in RouterOS unless MikroTik includes an avahi proxy package or equivalent.

Now at least I can stop being bothered by the fact that I have been unable to solve this problem.

Same here, I went for a Raspberry PI having a leg in both of my vlans and it runs avahi. Working perfectly!
