Hello,
I want to know if I can boot MT directly from CD.
The idea is to have a PC without hard drive.
I have an old P200 with 48 MB ram. Should this be enough?
And how would this be done? I heard somewhere, it should be possible, but i didnt find any infos on this in HOW TO and FAQ sections.
You can’t boot MikroTik from CD to operate it that way. You can boot from CD to install it.
The standard way of having no hard disk (for reliability reasons) is to install onto a flash disk. Either a compact flash (like the ones used in digicams) with an adapter to IDE, are a flash module that can plug directly into the IDE connector on the PCs motherboard.
Thanks for qiuck reply.
Ah, so thats the catch…
Of course i want to run it not install it form CD.
Would combination with a USB flash disk (64 mb) pluged into PCI card with USB slots on it be OK? I mean there are drivers for PCI card needed (I’m guessing), and then for USB drive (guessing again)
In my opinion, Disk-on-Module (DOM) is the best - just plug into primary IDE slot. Decent modules “latch” in place so they won’t fall out when the product is shipped.
On the latest motherboards, there are even jumpers to supply the +5V to the module so you don’t even need a power cable.
