Boot from network boot os

HW INFO: RB951
SW INFO: 6.44.1

I have problem connecting through Winbox to my RB951 after I put tarpit rule in firewall rule #1
I am thinking if possible to boot from network boot
backup my config from RB951
modify it
restore back to RB951
Exactly the same as in what we can do in Linux or Windows

  1. is that possible?

You have two options:

  1. try to connect via MAC winbox … it should work if your tarpit deals only with IP connections and if you didn’t disable MAC access from LAN interfaces
  2. if you have exported setup available off the RB, then you can perform factory reset (google for the exact procedure) and then restore the last working config

The third option would be to netinstall with default config but I don’t think it’s necessary, option #2 should do it.

I already did #2 but my backup config is 2 weeks old
I don’t have chance to test #1 because I already did #2
Netboot I think is only reinstall corrupted OS but not for booting os.

Do you think there is no way to boot from network or maybe flash disk plugged to usb port just to recover config.
I know I should do scheduled backup in the first place

The problem you want to solve is not how to boot device from external device, but how to avoid applying set configuration afterwards. I’m afraid you can’t boot RB device not having configuration applied but being still able to edit it. I’m afraid your only option is to clear the configuration and rebuild it … either from scratch or from older backup/export.
