Bootloader and license problem

Yesterday we had some hardware crash after hardware replacement I found that MikroTik (pre-installed on IDE-Flash with SW/L5 license) doesn’t boot, only prints

L 02 02 02 02 02...

looks like lilo bootloader problem I put this IDE-Flash in my linux workstation and was able to boot mikrotik from grub bootloader installed on my hdd, after what mikrotik works just fine.

$ cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
default 0
timeout 5

title Debian GNU/Linux 3.1
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.4.32-wh1 root=/dev/hdc1 ro idebus=66 vga=0x317 acpi=force
savedefault
boot

title OpenBSD 3.9
root (hd1,3)
makeactive
chainloader +1

title MikroTik RouterOS 2.8
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1 ro
savedefault
boot

after I installed grub bootloader on IDE-Flash mikrotik boot’s ok but now it says that it is demo version and only will work for 24h =(

So i have two qestions:

  1. Is there posibility to again activate the license?

  2. I have another IDE-Flash with SW/L5 with same bootloader problem, and is there posibility to repair it without loosing license?

Reinstall same version, enter same key. Do NOT (!!!) format or reimage. Use CD install of SAME version

I’m afraid I don’t have install CD of these versions I need (and i don’t remember if I ever had, as MikroTik was bought on pre-installed IDE-Flash), one is 2.8.11 and other 2.8.15.

And another question, can I get license key from RouterOS? I just remember that when we bought MT IDE-Flash’s they were working just “out of the box” without entering any keys.

maybe you can find them on the web somewhere, but mikrotik doesn’t provide them

And another question, can I get license key from RouterOS?

you mean extract key from a working RouterOS system? usually when you buy a preinstalled system, the key is put on your account anyway. if you will tell us your SoftID, I will be able to find the key and the owner. contact support@mikrotik.com for more info

a nice solution for your problem would be a clean reinstall to 2.9.28 and purchase of a new license, which now includes free upgrades up to RouterOS v3. But if you don’t need the new version, you can still try to find the old CD install.

Same old problem I had once in the past

it only can happen on old versions. 2.9 doesn’t have this problem
