Broken SXT cards?

Hi Folks,

Pls see my post at http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/have-i-broken-my-rb-sxt-5hpnd/62623/1

It definitely looks like these two units are broken, not a sniff of RF out of them.

Can anyone help me with understanding how this happened. Normis says that ‘by encreasing’ the power the cards may be damaged, but I’m not sure How I managed to do that. Does he main under Interface/wireless/Txpower?

It seems strange to me that the software will allow you to encrease the power to the extnt of damaging the unit? How can I be sure not to do this again?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Did you change the tx values from default?

If you see other AP’s its 99,9% Your config that is broken, not your card.

For Oldman,

Yes, I was experimenting with all the different power levels.

For samsung172,

I suspect that its just the transmit part of the card thats broken, hence I can detect other WiFi on the campus, but not the other end of the link on which I was experimenting.

If you have entred a Power value manualy, its possible to broke it. But its not common to be able to do a scan.

Im like 20% sure of something bruken couse of Power, but 80% that its config issue.

Hi Samsung,

Ah! Following your tip, I did a conf reset and reconfriged from scratch, and yep, you guessed it, they came alive again! I’d love to know how they became misconfiged, but prob will leave well alone, on the basis if it isnt broke, then dont fix it!!

Thanks and rgds

:astonished: !

I’ve had a few like that. What seems odd to me is adding a route generally doesn’t require a reboot, but I have had to on occasion to pass traffic. Usually a fairly large job for it to be a problem and a reboot is an easy fix.
