Can someone give me some examples of a burst string that would let a user start a streaming video quickly (maybe at 2.5 Meg), then after 30 seconds the bandwidth slows to about 500k for several minutes. I’ve experimented with several strings, but the bandwidth cycles up and down instead of staying down at 500k. When I vary the time (30/30), I get unexpected results.
Here is the string I’m using now:
96k/500k 192k/2500k 24k/900k 30/30 8 16k/64k
I don’t have screen up but looks like you set burst threshold to 24k/900k
So if their 30sec average download is less than 900k they are allowed to burst 2500k… So when they get restricted to 500k, after 30 secs or so their average will be <900k and they are allowed burst again..
Your Burst Threshold should be set below your speed limit. Usually I do 75% of speed limit, for 500k do like 384k so those just browsing pages will almost always have burst @ 2500k but those downloading a lot (downloads running longer than 30-35 secs) will be pulled back to 500k and stay there until their averge drops below 384k..
Does that make more sense? Burst Allowed if Average Bandwidth over Burst Time is below Burst Threshold
