Maybe I’m over thinking this a bit, but I can’t seem to verify what I want to do in the documentation. If anyone can give me a yes or no on whether it will work on one or both of the RB1100AH and RB1100AHx2 routers I would appreciate it. Part of my confusion come from the block diagram showing 2 switch controllers each with 5 ports, and then the bypass ports (Eth11 and 12) not connected to either switch controller, making me wonder if the only way to have traffic flow between Eth4 and Eth11 is via layer 3 routing. Or, if ports Eth11 and Eth4 can pass layer 2 (switched) traffic between them.
My end result needs to be that Devices A, B, and C connect to ports 11, 12, and 5 respectively providing a Layer 2 switched (single vlan) connection between all three ports. Then, if the RB1100??? itself fails, layer 2 traffic continues to be passed between devices A and B (ports 11 and 12) as if they were physically connected via a patch cable.
This would be easy if I owned an RB1100, I could just try it, but I don’t. Hopefully someone out there has done this and can at least confirm whether or not I’d be waiting time and money.
Thanks
