I wanna make the clients use the cache. I enabled the web-proxy cache but I’m not feeling that it’s working well.
your client has to enter the proxy address in his webbrowser. that’s how normal proxy setup works
if you want to force the client to use proxy, you can use transparent proxy and a DST-NAT rule to redirect all WWW traffic to your proxy address. look at the manual …
We do this on a large number of networks, and have not had many issues. The big issue is putting it on small hardware, this is where the issues come in. I.e. 200 customer, on a 532! That will crash, lockup, etc eventually. Just don’t’ work out. 5-10 users on a 532, no probl. 1000+ users on a PowerRouter, no prob.
I think it is just when the CPU gets maxed out. I have customer running as low as 10% hit rate, and as high as 40%. Trust me, 40% is not normal, but amazing!
