I was going to spend today finishing up my calea server on SuSE linux. But if MT is almost ready with something, I will go about other things and not duplicate anyone’s good work! Thanks!
i made a calea box with passive transfer from a ghetto tap that goes into a bsd box. The data is queried from my radius and sql server , and the packet sniffer written in perl translates into the tia standard. Im wondering if the mikrotik will comply with the standard of encapsulating the packets to the leas, or if it will be a glorified packet sniffer only and we will still need to transfer the packets with a mediation device.
Looks good so far, It would still be nice to see a setup example, configurations, steps required to setup a stream from the client to the server, and the steps required for the LEA to access the data. Can something like this be placed on the wiki itself?
I recieved the email about the CALEA training at MUM in Orlando, however I cannot make it on those dates. I wonder if it would be possible for someone to film the demostration or take enough notes to explain to those of us unable to attend.
Kewl it must have been updated since i saw it last. Glad to see mikrotik getting in the game on this one. Any release date set for the new beta that includes this yet?
I see the calea package is part of the 3.0b8 download. I have installed it but it doesn’t seem to do anything or have any traces in the config besides it’s enabled presence in “/system package.” The wiki references things that don’t work so far.
I also would love to attend the mum but atm cant get ther with a hectic scheduale. I have about 20-30 rb500 and 20 or so rb112s in the field atm and would love to see some examples of the calea package in action. I have built a passive ethernet tap for the time being , that was wrote to fit the calea standard , but hell why use more servers than needed. The device i have atm stores data in pcap to local and remote ftp servers , opens multiple streams to leas via the standard and just working on the timestamping with md5 hash atm. I hope we get some good examples up so we can use the mikrotik to assist in being safe harbor / calea compliant.
If anyone has any examples or has suggestions feel free to contact me
I am registered for the MUM, but will be unable to make it due to my schedule.
I see that the next versions of 2.9 and 3.0 were supposed to support it, but there is no mention in the changelog for 3.0b8 with regards to CALEA. When will the next 2.9 be ready?
Can someone else confirm that it is in 3.0beta8.
I am unable to find it in the /tool list as the wiki suggests.
I also checked for a new version of winbox thinking it needed to be updated, but no such luck.
i can confirm it is in the beta, with the things that it mentions int he wiki just gona have to do some tweaking to get it to work in the fashion that you want it for your specific network, but i can confirm its all ther
See the WIKI docs…
Also look at the MUM presentations from Orlando.
Look for the presentation on CALEA from Butch Evans.
About 3/4 thru the document you will see a sample config for both the “TAP” and the “Storage Server” configs..
PLEASE remember this is a early release.
The data is currently being stored on the “system drive” so X86 systems would be recomended for the storage server at the moment..
I am logging thei visit to the forums to a P4 system as I type…
VERY EASY config at both ends…
You can watch the data “pile up” at the storage server (MikroTik RouterOS box configured as a CALEA storage server device) as the link is used..
