I’m looking to connect my FTTH fiber connection directly to a MikroTik router to utilize my 500 Mbps internet plan. I have a few questions and would appreciate any guidance:
Recommended MikroTik Router Model: Could you please recommend a MikroTik router model that can reliably handle a 500 Mbps internet connection? I need a router that can handle this bandwidth without any performance issues.
SFP Module Type: My ISP provides internet through a fiber optic cable. What type of SFP module do I need to use to connect the fiber cable to the MikroTik router? Are there any specific requirements or recommendations for the SFP module?
Connection and Configuration: Once I have the router and SFP module, how do I connect the fiber cable to the router and configure it to work with my FTTH connection? Are there any specific settings I need to configure on the router, such as PPPoE or DHCP?
Any help or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
It depends a lot on the specific ISP, many (most if not all) will provide a device (ONT or Optical network terminal) that may come in the forn of a “black box” with the fiber IN and an ethernet port for you to connect to, other may provide their SFP module (that you can use in your own router SFP port), of these some will want you to use their SFP (that may or may not be compatible with your router) while some will allow you to register your own SFP.
If the speed is 500 Mb, there is IMHO no need to connect directly your router to the ISP fibre, a normal ethernet cable is more than enough.
The (likely) troubles to have a working direct fibre connection wouldn’t give any advantage in practice.

It would be money well spent if there is a faster connection on the horizon (and it has the possibilty to connect fibre).
Personally I would get the the RB5009 and use it “normally” with an ethernet connection to the ISP ONT.
It is likely that your ISP will before or later will upgrade speed to 1 Gb, and the ethernet will still be good enough, speeds over 1 Gb (where direct fibre may be better) are less probable on the same infrastructure.
The RB5009 will anyway (ethertnet or fibre) be good up to 2.5 Gb or so.
