I have reticently purchased MikroTik RB951Ui-2HnD and Ubiquiti Rocket M2 Access Point. There wasn’t PoE adapter for the Rocket M2. Then I realized that MikroTik RB951Ui-2HnD has an PoE in (first port) and PoE out port (fifth port).
My question is would be safe to connect the Rocket M2 to 5th port of Mikrotik which is PoE out port? Would be there enough power to supply the Rocket? What needs to be connect on port 1 (which is Poe In)?
Thank you very much in advance for your help and your advice.
Yes, you can power the Ubiquiti Rocket M2 from the PoE Out port on the RB951 as far as I can tell, as long as you power the RB951 with a 24v power supply since the PoE Out voltage is the same as the RouterBoard’s input voltage.
The PoE In port is labelled as such because it’s the only port which accepts PoE power to power the RB951. It doesn’t have to use PoE, and whether or not you use PoE In has no affect on the PoE Out port (except output voltage if used). If you power the RB951 using a regular DC power supply then the PoE In port would still just be the next network device such as a switch or modem.
Thank you very much for your reply. Its just original adapter as you said 24V and 0.8A. I will try to power the Rocket then.Hope it won’t effect the load ballance of the RB951.
i have a 960PGS up on the roof, 5 gigabit ports, 1 poe in, 4 poe out.
in one of the ports i have connected a UBNT LiteBeam 5AC 23.
I works ok, but at 100Mbps. Maybe its the cable..
