RouterOS is better. Why do you need to put inferior product onto RouterBOARD?
You might be able to. Some people are running OpenWRT on RBs, for example. However, Mikrotik doesn’t support it (just like most other hardware vendors that deliver with firmware installed don’t support non-stock firmware), and these forums don’t have many people that run non-stock posting.
Basically you’re mostly on your own.
hey guys!!! thanks.
normis… i am planning to make carrier class communication systems based completely on Mikrotik hence i am evaluating all possible options. I just so love Mikrotik but am not sure how can i manufacture carrier class end user products using RouterBoard and RouterOS. pretty confused. ![]()
Carrier grade is a pretty narrow, well known definition: exceed five nines and recover faults through redundancy in under 50ms.
That’s not something you build yourself, or buy for anything but a large budget.
Of course, unless you are a carrier (meaning you are the primary transit for a significant number of smaller service providers) you probably do not need carrier grade hardware.
does that mean i cannot service mobile backhauls using mikrotik platform?
Sure you can. I was just saying that “carrier grade” has a specific meaning, and is extremely expensive to achieve.
What does it mean anyway, if you are a carrier and you use some product, it’s automatically carrier grade ![]()
carrier grade is something which can be good in bad conditions. (confusing) ![]()
lol
well said.
thanx for the compliment oldman
