Need to make a few VPN tunnels to connect head brach with 3-5 offices, all tunnel will have about 5mbps of traffic and 50 computers with database access and file sharing.
The necscreen hardware, that adviced fot this configuration will cost about 4000 eur. Also I found some Conrtivity that written to support my needs and found that Contivity is almost ususal PC wirh 850 Mhz CPU.
So the question is if I will make a Mikrotik router from Compaq’s P4 ~2.5Ghz, will it support same or even larger loads for traffic and VPN’s encryption?
hello, this depends on what encryption you are going to use and how much “a few” is actually.
for lots of encrypted connections and higher data rates always hardware-encryption is necessary, and its not available for as low as 4000 eur, too.
we have a few (10) encrypted tunnels with 2 mbps bandwith on our access concentrator (only 550MHz) , but expecting some more before having to use a faster hardware.
there is cheap pc-hardware (don’t use realtek NICs) and a free MT-ROS demo, why not trying it?
