Can not log into RB1200 after activating new back-up file

Hi Guys,
For about 2 years now my core router has been just a tower pc with Mikrotik running on it, so I decided to get a RB1200 as my main router and use the tower router as a back-up just in case anything went wrong with the 1200.

I have ftp’d the backup file from the old tower router up to the 1200 and clicked on reset.

But now I am unable to get into the 1200, I keep getting the error “Could not connect to [MAC ADDRESS](port 20561) - timed out!”.

When I click on the […] button it finds the router but the ip comes up as 0.0.0.0, but the name of the router has changed all right from what the old router was, this must mean that the backup was successful.

I have tried all the ethernet ports, but they all show no ip.

How can I log in through mac address guys?

Hi Premier,

You need to click “restore” while selecting the backup file you wish to restore onto the local device.
That said you may find the way the ethernet interfaces are arrayed could be a little different to how you had them on the server.

As you’ve mentioned you’re connecting to ether1, have you tried another port via a mac address to make sure the RB1200 doesn’t still have its default configuration?
The default configuration blocks connections on ether1 so this may be part of the problem you have getting back into it to change the settings.

Eg: plug into ether2 and literally type in one of the mac addresses listed on the sticker on the bottom of the RB1200 then hit connect (rather than trying to detect/connect manually).

Hope this helps!

This is what I thought about all right that ether1 might of have been firewalled. So I connected into each of the ether ports, one by one, and each time a different MAC would come up. It was with these different MAC’s that I tried to log in from ports 2-10, but I still get the same result. Would this procedure be the same as trying the MAC’s underneath the router?
