when I add a static DNS entry and then delete it , it is all right,
it just appears in the cache and then disappears.
but,
when I add a static DNS entry and then modify it ,e.g. from “abc.com” to “xyz.com”,
something gets wrong.
the DNS entry with old value and then DNS entry with new value both appears in the cache.
and I can NOT remove the DNS entry with old value now!
If I delete the static DNS entry ,only the DNS entry with new value disappears,
the old one stays there.
Even if I flush the whole cache, the old one remains in the cache.
I have confirmed that The PTR record does stay after renaming the static DNS entry and then deleting it. This was on a 3.0RC5. After several attempts to remove the record failed, I found that rebooting the router did remove those entries.
Idn,
While this is a bug it only affects reverse DNS lookups. It should not have a negative affect on surfing the web.
