can RB1100AH X2 handle 600 hotspot client?

can RB1100AH X2 handle 600 hotspot client and do some QoS rules?

Theoretically, though it depends on how much bandwidth you are feeding it and if you are doing per user bandwidth queuing.

ROS6 would help if you are doing per user bandwidth queuing..

We have a setup of a RB1100AHx2 where it’s connected to a wireless system. That system has about 8 (dual radio) wireless emitters so probably have a max of around 150 maybe 200 clients.

In that setup with a little above a 100 users connected and having an internet bandwith of 100Mbit the usage never raised above 5% maybe with a little spike up to 10%.

This is with hotspot, radius and queues per user limiting their bandwith to either 1Mbit, 2Mbit or 5Mbit. They where all casual users, so mostly smartphones or other low intensity users. Also some VLAN’s and routing between them. NAT to the internet line. DHCP, DNS, etc.

It all kind of depends what the usage pattern of your clients will be. But from my experience it should be able to handle it, no problem.

the real question is that 600 active or 600 total users?

Total 600 users, active 400 users…

Wow, that is quite a lot. Probably best to take a look at the new CCR line op products. The lowest model should probably meet your needs with ease.

It can`t. I have RB1100AHx2 for PPPoE server. Processes are: NAT, 150 Active PPPoE users, 150 dynamic simple queues, ~110Mb/30Mb traffic, 4 queue tree rules. At the moment, CPU reaches 100%. I guess hotspot will use cpu more than PPPoE. So you need monster like “CCR1036”.

Will the 1100AHX2 support 400 active users, yes. We are doing that and more now. Will it support that with everything you want?..Maybe. Why not split up the roles, have 2 1100ah’s, doing doing pppoe and your rules you want, the other simply just routing? Then the answer is yes

Hi Guywifi, Could you please post more detail about your RB1100AHx2 usage? How many connections, queues, firewall, NAT rules you have? How about CPU usage in that time? Any special configuration (maybe script ever 1 minutes)? Have you enabled SNMP?

hotspot uses a lot less cpu than pppoe server
