Can somebody recommend a RouterBOARD for remote access VPN?

Hi,

I’m a newbie to RouiterBOARD and RouterOS, and I need a remote access VPN solution for our company. The requirements are:

    1. up to 100 tunnels at the same time
  1. support protocols like pptp, l2tp(over ipsec), other things like sstp is a plus
  2. support multicast through VPN tunnel, (I know pure ipsec doesn’t support this)
  3. would be better if it can manage VPN users, (like killing a session, searching an online user)

I like RouterOS’s managment interface(WinBox, Web etc), but I don’t know which type of RouterBOARD can do what I want especially up to 100 tunnels concurrently.

Thanks. What about x86 servers? Can x86 servers gain better performance at the same price?

Sure, x86 are also very powerful. But RouterBOARD will be guaranteed to be supported, and you will have less hassle with hardware drivers. RB1100AHx2 also has IPsec hardware acceleration built in.

Hi, here I come with another question.

If I plan to use ROS to deliver multicast data to our vpn clients, I think IGMP proxy is a proper solution, isn’t it? We already have another upstream Cisco router as the edge multicast router.

And then, since ROS doesn’t support IGMP Snooping, will every VPN tunnel receive multicast data even if it doesn’t join any group?

Any ROS guru who can tell if I’m right?
