Just bought my first MikroTik RB750G (for home use), but unable to login to it from my Windows XP notebook. Connection dropdown box in WinBox doesn’t show anything, typing IP or MAC manually doesn’t help either (getting connection timeout). Same with PuTTY. Computer receives IP from the router so I assume it’s working ok.
No configuration was made on the router, I even reset it to be sure.
Just tried connecting from diffirent PC (with Ubuntu Linux on it) through SSH and succeeded. But I would prefer WinBox for initial setup.
So question now is changed more to a WinXP configuration area. What can I have wrong with my system that MikroTik doesn’t like? As I said earlier, firewall is switched off. Everything is allowed on ICMP tab. No antivirus is interfering (I believe).
Is it possible that this can be vendor specific? HP laptop. 1Gb LAN with CAT6 cable.
when connected via SSH, type “/system reset” and confirm. After that, all config will be cleared, and you should be able to connect with Winbox via the dropdown. Just in case something is blocking it.
I did system reset. It didn’t help. My colleague’s computer is able to connect just fine, so it has to be me (not sure why).
I’m unable to connect not even with telnet or SSH. Even when opening web page http://192.168.88.1/ I’m immediately asked for a password, and when I enter user admin with empty password it just keep asking for credentials. I don’t have any problems with network besides that, www, ssh to servers, etc… all works.
Obviously it’s a problem with my computer or its operating system, but if someone had the same problem I will be glad to hear from them, otherwise I will be configuring and maintaining my router from other people machines.
It seems to be Windows problem. Because the same machine but with different OS managed to connect just fine. Maybe you should check your machine network settings, firewall, etc. I just gave up and used other machine. Sorry.
