Can the Hotspot authenticate without an external radius?

Hi everyone I have some questions about the capabilities of the RouterOS. Can it run a simple username and password authentication page that once people enter the proper username and pass get through to use the internet without the use of an external radius server? So lets say I bought an RB750 could that and that alone run a simple hotspot all byitself with the help of some wireless AP’s ofcourse. Like say using the same username and password for everyone?

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Gordon

Yes, ROS can do what you want and much more

So you would only need the radius for billing? There’s alot of tutorials out there on how to set one up but each of them do it differently and each of them talk about using radius. Anyway Thanks so much for the quick response Skillful. Its greatly appreciated. I think When I’m done I’m going to post a tutorial on how to simply set one up for simple authentication.

You can use internally stored usernames and passwords, this starts being unrecommended at more than 100 user accounts. You can also user User Manager as a free package for RouterOS as a rudimentary local RADIUS server.

A basic setup with local users can be found here: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Hotspot_server_setup
