cannot connect to router using winbox

Hi. I have a 75 series router which I want to connect to with winbox to kind of start over, and when I plug a cable into ether1 I get an address, but when I say to connect to winbox says invalid address.

I am using winbox v2.x and the OS in the router is v6.0.

Any assistance on this would be appreciated. I can’t get to first base with this.

use netinstall 6.18 and install 6.18

is a nice start point to understand how RB75x and RouterOS works.

P.S.: do not forget: you can use MAC address on Winbox to connect to the device…

But I cannot use mac address to connect, winbox says invalid address. This is my problem.

Where you get that address? using “…” button or you have read it on box?

What version of winbox you have?

I got the address off of the … dialog. I am using winbox 2.2.18. I tried the newer one, but got 0 items when I clicked on neighbors.

Check if you have enabled, if not enable it, “Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP” on IPV4 property of ethernet/wireless interface of your PC.

If you use windows 8, you also need to disable all the interface, except the one is connected to the device.

It is the default and its enabled, but no joy.

Well, I discovered that disabling my VMware workstation virtual adaptors solved my problem. With winbox it manifested itself as a timeout, but I got it to work without the netinstall.

Thanks.
