Cannot connect to the internet with PPOE with vlan

I am trying to connect my mikrotik router to the internet with a fibre modem.

Following the instructions, I created a VLAN 40 on eth1 and attached the PPOE client with the provided username and password.

I am pretty sure that I am connected because I can see an IP in the PPOE interface and using the ping tool in winbox i can ping 8.8.8.8. But I am not able to connect to the internet on any of my computers.

I did a config reset to clear all settings just in case I had something that was blocking it but I still can’t connect.

Here’s the config:

# software id = KDZ0-FPEH
#
# model = RB750Gr3
# serial number = D5030FF9A03F

Any help with getting this working is appreciated.

/interface vlan
add interface=ether1 mtu=1492 name=EboxVlan vlan-id=40

That is wrong. mtu should not be set to 1492 there. Remove that.

The new WAN interface needs adding to the WAN interface list, otherwise there will be no internet access from the LAN:
/interface list member
add interface=EboxPPOE list=WAN

you can also remove ether1 from the list, and disable or remove the DHCP client.

With the above advice, you should be good to go!! All points covered.

The one that stood out for me was this needs to be disabled or removed (and the wan interface list)
/ip dhcp-client
add comment=defconf disabled=no interface=ether1 use-peer-dns=no
