Finally was able to connect to winbox and enter my mikrotik 951G router. I was able to connect, exit then re-connect on many different occasions. But have never been able go outside the router. Was working to correct that and now I have lost all ability to connect with winbox. Once winbox is called in, If I click on the MAC address it states [ cannot connect on port 20561 ], and if I click on the IP address 192.168.88.1 it starts to connect, but never moves one character. It stays there until I physically close the program. Please help, as I am totally lost. Thanks in advance. System is just an Internet connection into a Motorola SB6141 modem into an RB951G Mikrotik router into a 1GB laptop.
Is the box alive?.. e.g. does internet work on it? Tried SSH etc?.. if it doesn’t respond at all you may need to netinstall.
Thank you for the reply. How do I do a netinstall I will research it. I have tried almost everything. Found a statement to do a [ NETSH int ip reset reset log.txt ] then reboot the laptop. This worked once I was in then I closed it out and tried to come back into Winbox still using the mac i get [ could not connect to D4:CA… (port 20561) - timed out! ] then tried using the ip address of which it does find [192.168.88.1] this does call in the Winbox and it states [ Connecting to 192.168.88.1 (port 8291) ] and stays there forever or until i cancel it out. Please help. Thanks
efaden I have done as you have stated. I unplugged laptop from mikrotik and connected laptop to my network, which is Internet into Motorola SB6141 modem into PIX 501 firewall into 16 GB port switch into the laptop. It immediately connected to the Internet, I then from your link on netinstall downloaded a new copy of WinBox. Powered everything down. Recabled Internet into modem into mikrotik into laptop, as always before. Same results could not connect with mac address, and will not connect with ip address. Any other suggestions please. Thanks
You need to perform an actual netinstall as per the instructions not just download winbox.
The very first time I downloaded WinBox it just executed and worked without the full install. This time it worked again without the full install. So far my problem is corrected. On the laptop I did an
[ ipconfig /release ], then [ ipconfig /renew ], then [ ipconfig /all ] giving me all zeros. I then powered down and back everything. When it came back up I am able to connect to WinBox using either mac address or ip address. Problem I have now is my original one. I cannot get out of the router to the Internet. The firewall is turned off. Under DHCP Client it lists bridge-local as being [ stopped ]. Is this a problem, if it is, how do I correct it. Thanks in advance.
I have tried this and have/had the same problem on 2 SXT’s
It turns out that after setting up the bridge (i made aPTP bridge) it doesn’t want to connect anymore and i got the error:
“could not connect to (port 20561) timed out!”
After resetting the device (i did have access throu IP) i could also connect throu MAC.
do your LAN IP match IP from the router? Your lan IP 192.168.88.2 - mikrotik IP 192.168.88.1
