I recently bought an RB2011 iL-RM routerOS routerBOARD device.
I love it and think Mikrotik is great, its amazing how powerful it is and for such a good price..
This router does not come with wireless capabilities, however in my work we have wireless access points from a different company (not sure if I should name the company here but it doesnt matter). These access points connect via ethernet to the switches, and then the switches connect to the Mikrotik router. However, I cannot get any access point to work. I used a dummy router/modem, disabled DHCP on it, and let it connect to the network, and it ALSO does not provide Internet access with wifi.
To clarify, I am able to connect to the WiFi network provided by the wireless AP. However, it says ‘Connected, no Internet’.
Here is a written diagram of my network:
ISP Modem → Mikrotik RB2011 iL-RM → Switches → Wireless AP → phone via WiFi
Most videos online show tutorials where the Mikrotik device they are giving the tutorial on, IS A WIRELESS DEVICE. This router is not a wireless device and I can’t find any example on how to set up Mikrotik for a non-wireless router. No videos online show how to set up a separate wireless AP from a different company with a Mikrotik router.
I am going into Wireless → Wifi Interfaces → Add Virtual. However, ‘Master Interface’ has no options, it just says Unknown. I hope someone can help me because I don’t know what to do.
Simply first configure the RouterBOARD,when you are able to “navigate” with ethernet,
simply connect one AP on one ethernet port, and follow the other brand tutorial on how to configure an AP…
I have gotten the wireless AP working. I was setting it up wrong, I did not disable the DHCP server which messed things up.
However I have some problems I don't know how to fix with the Mikrotik router. It seems that there are issues with connecting to certain Internet services.
When you can connect to something and another not, probably your connection or your device have some filter.
For excluding that can be problem on your router, post the config on forum.
On new terminal do a “/export” command, and put the results on forum,
censoring serial number, password, username, email, etc.
