Cannot login after v6.37.1 update

Hi,
Wonder if somebody could advise please.
Been using the Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD for over a year now. Have previously upgraded the unit as and when stable versions are released, without any problems whatsoever.
However, l upgraded to v6.37.1 last week, and tried at the weekend to log in to the router, but have not been able to using the default ‘admin’ as the userid, and blank password.

Error message received is :
Authentication failed: invalid username or password

I’ve not changed it, and my ISP confirmed they’ve not changed it either.
I did not log in after the version was installed at the time - did a ‘download & install’ option…it beeped, reboot, and links,WiFi were all up and working, so didn’t bother to check by logging in again.

Appreciate any advise before i do a complete reset and restore from an 11 month old backup.

If you can’t log in there is no way to access the router. The only way would be, as you mention, reset or netinstall.
But anyway, how come you left it with default credentials, changing username and password should be the first thing to do on a routerboard.

When you have admin and blank password, and you have an error in your firewall, you have been hacked.
You’ll need to format and netinstall the device.
