Cannot netinstall RouterOS 3.30 or 4.2

Hello,
I’m trying to install a new RouterOS over a 8GB Kingston Compact Flash and I’m failing again and again.

I tried Compact Flash in two different computers (a SiS900 chipset computer and a many times net-installed asus p4b board) several times using Netinstall 4.2 and netinstall 3.30 connecting to the computer through my office network (more comfortable) and on-site using a crossover cable directly to my laptop.

I tried running netinstall on Windows 7 x64, and Windows XP SP2 (32 bits), with same results.

System boots through PXE correctly. Appear in netinstall. I select the packages (it doesn’t matter selecting only system or selecting a bunch of packages) and click install.

Starts partitioning and formatting, it takes some time due to big capacitty of CF.

Starts copying system package. When there is about to finish (using a terminal screen there’s just a # left to fill) it stucks.
After about half a minute or a minute, netinstall says: “Connection lost due to timeout” and terminal just tells: “System package installed. Press enter to reboot”.

Obviously if I press enter system reboots but it’s not able to boot.

If I try to do it using a Flash USB reader, when it tries to format drive say: “Cannot copy system files”.

I tried formatting CF using Fat32 filesystem and I’ve done some I/O just to check it is working well, and it worked.

Any ideas?

Something similar happened to me, when triying to install RouterOS in an USB drive. The problem solved, with a kind of esoteric action: I selected the “Set Optimal Parameters” in the mother´s BIOS, and everithing worked.

HEllo,

I set BIOS to default values and I’m still unable to netinstall RouterOS 3.30 nor 4.2.

I cannot know why is it failing again and again. Any idea?

Anyone know which filesystem has to have the CF in order to install using a card reader?

Pop!

Anyone?

Tried a different card reader?

I had this problem when I occidentally loaded xen package on a RB230 and netinstall couldn’t read the card properly… after changing card reader everything worked fine.

Hello,
I tried three different USB N-in-1 card readers using two different computers and operating systems, and none of them worked.

I select the correct drive, then click “Install” and it says for less than a second: “Partitioning and formating drive”, and then: “Installation failed”.

CF it’s a Kingston Elite Pro 8GB ( http://www.kingston.com/flash/cf_elite.asp ) I bought few weeks ago. I tried on my computer and it works flawlessly with great high writing speed.

Any other idea? maybe and older netinstall version? I’m using 3.30 version.

Maybe it is a defective drive.

After all those tests I tried again on my computer and it randomly fails to format or hangs my MacOS X when writing a lot of data.

Pop!
It is not a defective drive. I’ve just RMA’d the first one and I got a new one, that it is performing well under windows.

And I can’t still install it via USB.

Tonight I’ll try by network.

Did you try some smaller CF card just to make sure what’s not working there ?
